The weekend is here and I was thinking, it would be a good idea to wrap this week up with some quotes for inspiration and motivation. As bloggers we all know how important content is and how essential understanding content marketing is. So, I just created a list of quotes from some of the best content marketing gurus right now. I firmy believe that these quotes will help us to move in the right direction and keep us motivated to create amazing content.

Content Is King – Is This True?


In the past couple of years, there has been a drastic change in how the online industry operates. There was a time when SEO ( Search Engine Optimization) was revered and was the only important factor in your online success and growth, I am not saying it is not important now but perhaps not so much as it was a few years ago.

Now, everyone wants to work on the content. Set objectives in terms of their content marketing strategies. A small blog, a small business website, an eCommerce store everyone seems to have moved from SEO to streamlining their Content needs and the delivery of their content as their primary focus. I am sure, we will find many posts defining why Content is king. I do believe content is very important, but don’t we want to know why content is so important and why Content is suddenly the King? Just like me, many of you would have asked this question to yourself. I did one better, I worked towards finding out why Content is King and what I found out is really interesting.

So, in this post, I will share with all you bloggers, digital marketers, and other interested parties my findings. Read on.

Personally, I have experienced the magic of content. How quality over quantity always wins. I completely agree that not just online but everywhere content is important. Sometimes, content can be the deciding factor. But, at the same time, I just wanted to make sure for myself if -” Content is King” is only a myth or is it really true. So, I started researching on what the world wide web thinks about it.  I started reading and researching what the most authoritative marketing minds across the world had to say about it. I came across some very definitive statements;

“Content marketing is the only marketing left.” Seth Godin.

Even when you are marketing to your entire audience or customer base, you are still simply speaking to a single human at any given time. Worry less about sounding professional and worry more about creating remarkable content that other humans can relate to.” Ann Handley, Chief Content Officer at MarketingProfs

“Content marketing is the new SEO.” Neil Patel, Quicksprout

And also, some people who strongly believe that “content is king” is the biggest myth of our times. For, example read what renowned blogger Ramsay Taplin of Blog Tyrant fame had to say

“Good content is not enough because everyone has good content. You also need to promote it.” Ramsay Taplin

These conflicting statements from some of the leading marketers and bloggers only strengthened my resolve to understand the concept better. When, I did a little more of digging and reading I was able to quite clearly understand some important aspects behind the philosophy of ” Content is King”. I also understood how it is both true and at the same time not so much. The factors which drove me to sit on the fence with this one are as follows.

A very clear explanation to  why Content is King is given by Sonja Jefferson of Valuable Content. I agree with some of these points she makes.

“Tried and tested activities for getting client attention just don’t work like they once did”

“Quality content comprises of information that is first and foremost of real value to your particular client base.”

Further to this line of reasoning, I also came across some very strong points which I absolutely agree with. Neil Patel, Co-founder of Crazy Egg and Hello Bar, Also blogs at Quicksprout says;

“SEO is not what it used to be. You can’t just pop up an ugly website, throw up mediocre content, build a few links and expect to rank well. These days you actually have to build a good website, write high-quality content that solves peoples’ problems, build thousands of links and get thousands of social shares.”

So, despite the fact that there is a clear need for original, quality content to engage your audience and to be on top of search results, Content alone is not the defining element but one of the important ones. I also found out that apart from having amazing quality content the other elements which make your blog or your website a success are;

  • Promotion is very important, to reach your audience and to consistently share your content to them is critical.
  • Have a strategy in place to convert your readers into subscribers or customers, do not just strategize on bringing out quality content.
  • Good content is only important in certain niches and mostly you need simple yet appealing content to work with. So identify your niche and plan accordingly.
  • Do work on having your blog or website optimized for global design standards. Design plays a crucial role in how your audience reacts to your content.

Does it make sense?
